McHenry Hohnen Hazel Vineyard BDX 2021

McHenry Hohnen Hazel Vineyard BDX 2021

$43.00

‘BDX’ refers to the ‘Bordeaux’ classic blend. This wine is 50% Malbec, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot.

All fruit was de-stemmed but not crushed in to concrete fermenters, with a 5-day cold soak before wild fermentation. Post fermentation, the wines were pressed to French barriques in their underground cellar. Wines were matured for 15-months before being racked and bottled after a coarse filtration. 2019 was cooler than average and careful vineyard management allowed the fruit to enjoy a long ripening period, the result is elegance and beautiful natural acidity. This wine comes from the Hazel’s Vineyard which was certified biodynamic in 2020.

McHenry Hohnen is a family run, highly respected biodynamic producer in the Margaret River.

WINEMAKER

Jacopo Dalli Cani

Wines were matured for 16 months before being blended and bottled in Spring 2022. The entire production comes from Hazel’s Vineyard.

WINERY

McHenry Hohnen

McHenry Hohnen is a story of quality and attention to detail above all else. From their very first vintage in 2004, McHenry Hohnen have consistently curated a stunning suite of Chardonnay along with Cabernet dominant wines, incredible Zinfandel and more recently, Rhone varietals. They have continued to evolve their sustainability focus through continual investment in their family-owned biodynamic vineyards.
Founder, Murray McHenry planted his first vineyard at Burnside in Margaret River in 1984 and was a key supplier of fruit to Cape Mentelle in David Hohnen’s time at the helm right up until that first vintage in 2004. Murray now has sole stewardship of McHenry Hohnen and the wines are now made by the supremely talented Jacopo Danni Cali. ‘Japo’ as he’s known to his friends was born into wine in the hills of Soave and has travelled the new world extensively, making wine in New Zealand, The Barossa Valley and Margaret River before settling in the region to lead the winemaking at McHenry Hohnen.
